When I have the opportunity to travel for engagements and weddings it is the most incredible feeling. Couples choosing their own venues for their engagement sessions really emphasizes their hands on approach and usually introduces me to a world of new surroundings, which I love! All these new venues allow me to give other couples who want my input on an amazing location, the chance to actually show them proof that these locations are gorgeous!
For this session, I got to travel 3 hours away from Richmond with a personal chauffeur in tow (my dad). He loves joining me on out of town adventures because he is a hobby photographer himself, basking in the chance to see what Virginia has to offer. It’s also nice to have someone drive you home after a long out of town wedding when you can barely function physically or mentally, and when you don’t have a husband like many of my fellow wedding photographers, Dad just has to do. Thanks Dad!
This session was nestled away in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, and the drive alone was gorgeous. When we finally met up with our gorgeous couple and entered the actual venue, it was crazy! It reminded me of Maymont in the way that it offers gardens derived from the styles of different countries in the world. They had a traditional English garden, Japanese garden and many other assortments. There was even a mini mansion facade, fully furnished – just like having your own guest house but with no doors (and no bathroom).
I’m so glad my couple gave me the opportunity to travel to a new place – it’s one of the things I enjoy most about being a wedding photographer. Today’s post celebrates them as they are getting married tomorrow!!! Congratulations you little lovebirds.
